We’ve been approved by the Documentary Australia Foundation for DGR (deductible gift recipient) status. This means any contribution to the film budget is 100% tax deductible. We effectively have the same status as a charity for tax purposes. It’s an initiative that is a couple of years old now and has already been a funding model that has supported some amazing films like Happy Sad Man (Genevieve Bailey, 2018).
I am now beginning the task of approaching philanthropic organisations asking for a contribution. It’s a daunting prospect, but it means we can proceed into production without being tied to a broadcaster or distributor. We have the freedom to develop the concept in the style we want. That may change, as filmmaking is a pragmatic business, but for now, I am setting off full of hope. I really believe in this film and its message. I hope that if you are reading this you share a view that cheesemaking traditions matter and must be protected.
Share the news, spread the word, and get on board if you can afford to.
